Pazhassi Raja(Malayalam,Ilaiyaraja)

Kunnathae Konnakyum is a cracker of a song-Has a mesmerizing tune with bewitching arrangements by Raja, and Chitra's stunning vocals add to the magic.Aadhiussandhya, with uber-inventive orchestration and a soaring tune, once again has some excellent vocals, this time by Yesudas and MG Sreekumar.Raja goes behind the mike this time for Ambum Kombum, which starts off with a tribal sound and then goes on with an interesting tune structure while Aalamadankala Mythavanalle carries the period film'ish sound really well, added with some extraordinary arrangements by Raja.Odathandil Thalam Kottum has a seductive tune, just like Kunnathae Konnakyum and both the singers,Chandrasekhar and Sangeetha do full justice to their song.Ilaiyaraja's score for Pazhassi Raja is very imaginative and is completely in sync with the film's theme!..

Puthiya Mugham(Malayalam,Deepak Dev)

Prithviraj's Kaane Kaane is an outright winner-The actor is so adept with his vocals that i wrongly mistook his vocals to that of a professional singer!..Coming to the tune,it is incredibly catchy and has a rousing chorus!..The slow and haunting Yadhukula Murali has an incredible tune that works instantly while Sweety Pie is tuneless but has decent backgrounds and makes for good fun.The highlight of the soundtrack is the mesmerizing Picha Vecha Naal Mudhal-With one magnificent tune infused with classical backgrounds that works big time, this song is stunningly absorbing!..And Shankar Mahadevan is in incredible form here!..Thattum Muttum and Rahasyamaayi,on the other hand are seemingly routine and are just about listenable.Deepak Dev comes up with a very likeable soundtrack in Puthiya Mugham!

Bhagyadevatha(Malayalam,Ilaiyaraja)

Allipoove Allipoove has Ilaiyaraja at his supreme best-The interludes and backgrounds stand testimony to the fact and Vijay Yesudas and Shwetha rock this melody.Despite the weird combination,Rahul Nambiyar and Chitra's Swapnangal Kannezhuthiya has neat rhythm flowing throughout and the paragraphs are mind-blowing,reminiscent of Ilaiyaraja's peak days as a composer.Karthik's Thira Thallipoyalum is the pick of this short soundtrack!..The tune is not all that creative, definitely heard before from Raja-But the ever-attractive orchestration and Karthik's vocals along with the beautiful tune make it a pleasant nostalgia trip!..For the past 2 years,Raja's work has been abysmal and had synth dominating largely in the tracks, except for some OSTs like Naan Kadavul and Malleppuvvu. This time,Raja goes back to his trademark style to come up with something that is almost like his work in 80s!..
