Sikandar(Hindi,Justin-Uday,Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy,Sandesh Shandilya)

Both the versions of Gulon Mein, the one by Mohit Chauhan and K,K are extremely likeable, particularly the one by K.K!..He just rocks completely in this song.Dhoop Ke Sikke, predictably has the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy stamp all over it and impresses for the tune and arrangements.Justin-Uday's Manzaarat is terribly bland but Shilpa Rao's vocals is the major highpoint of the track and makes it reasonably listenable. The duo's next composition,Chaal Apni has a very hummable tune with immensely competent vocals by the singers-One heck of a track!..The duo's final track Allah hoo is a tad juvenile and is good only in parts but the mood is depicted perfectly. The multiple composers manage to pull off an appealing soundtrack with Sikandar!..

Gulaal(Hindi,Piyush Mishra)

Aarambh is thumping and punchy, aptly befitting the film's theme with very good lyrics while the short hum that sneaks in,in the middle is awesome!..Aisi Sazaa is mesmerizing, with haunting backgrounds and Shilpa Rao's vocals in this track is completely adorable.Duniya is painfully slow, but Piyush takes the song somewhere with his soulful rendition!..Rahul Ram pulls off his Raat Ke Musafir with panache even though its more of talking than singing(!).Of the Rekha Bharadwaj's two tracks,Beedo and Ranaji, the latter overshadows Beedo due to the tuneful arrangements and good lyrics but Rekha just rocks over both the tracks. The moody Shehar is amazing and is rendered perfectly by the singers,Rahul Ram and Piyush.Yaara Maula is the soundtracks best!..The sizzling tune, the rock'ish backgrounds in the middle, the vocals by Aushim,Rahul Ram and Piyush-Everything works in favour of this track.Gulaal's soundtrack is dark and witty-How does Anurag Kashyap get such stuff from his composers every time?

Sarvam(Tamil,Yuvan Shankar Raja)

Adada Vaa has a zingy tune and the groovy backgrounds make it considerably catchy and Raja's vocals lend some feel to the song.Yuvan's vocals is the only sore point in Katrukkullai-But the tune is just sizzling and is marked by extremely haunting backgrounds while Sutta Suriyane seems to be aping the style from Rahman's early Indian days, but is all the same catchy.Neethane is big time appealing, barring the often out-of-place vocals by Yuvan but that is completely drowned by the mighty impressive tune.Siragugal too is moulded with infectious backgrounds and impressive tune while the clever mix of assorted sounds in the theme wraps up this soundtrack.Yuvan is always good when it comes to Vishnuvarshan's movies and he is just that in Sarvam.

13B(Hindi,Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy,Tubby,Parik)

Oh Sexy Mama, with the predictable tune and backgrounds is painfully hackneyed. But Karthik simply rocks in Bade Se Shehar Mein-a tuneful and an ambient melody composed beautifully by the composer trio.Aasma Odh Kar is the soundtracks highlight-The wonderful tune, the fabulous backgrounds along with spirited singing by Shankar Mahadevan makes it mesmerising.Sab Khairiyat Hai is a tad juvenile in terms of the tune and does not make that much of an impression as it is very short too.But the remix version of the song is much better!..The theme music by Tubby and Parik just symbolises the mood of the movie and is in one word,inspiring!..This latest venture by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is not appealing like it usually is with the trio's OSTs,but is certainly above average.

Dev D(Anurag Kashyap)

A slightly out-of-place 2nd half along with some cliches(Not to mention,Paro's character-Mahi Gill?)are the only sore points in this movie.Being 'loosely' inspired from Devdas is one thing. On the other hand, giving an entirely trendy look to it along with impeccable screenplay and world-class music is entirely another thing.Abhay Deol pulls off his character of Dev with elan and he has to be lauded for taking up this script and conceptualising it too.The much-hyped infusion of MMS scandal thingy to introduce Chanda character is actually very intelligent although casting for the role could've been a shade better.Usage of all 18 songs in the movie is pleasantly surprising.Amit Trivedi's compositions are incredibly suited to the theme and he rocks in the background score too.Anurag Kashyap's Dev D is a fitting tribute to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel Devdas!..
