Top 10 Telugu songs of the year 2008

Telugu, too has not been that great this year, but it had some rocking soundtracks like Jalsa,Kotha Bangaru Lokam etc.Inspiring Chalore Chalore from Jalsa Tops the list followed by Yevarunnarani Neekaina from Yuvatha(Listen to this particular track in earphones!) and Bagundey Bagundey from Chintakayala Ravi. This year also had some newcomers like Achu and Vinu Thomas coming up with decent soundtracks. The composer of the year jointly goes to Devi Sri Prasad(for his superb work in Jalsa,Ready and King) and Mickey J Meyer(For Kotha Bangaru Lokam,Hare Ram) and the best soundtracks, undoubtedly goes to Jalsa,Kotha Bangaru Lokam and Chintakayala Ravi!..

Top 10 Tamil songs of the year 2008

For Tamil, this year hasn't been that great but there has been a sizeable amount of good songs that has come out.The magnificent Aavaram Poo tops the list followed by Cheeky Cheeky from Saroja and Anal Mele from Vaaranam Ayiram.I haven't yet got bored of these three tracks!..Manasellam from Kulir 100 and Kathal Devathai from Thozha narrowly missed out(I was having Manasellam and Kathal Devathai in 11th and 12th place respectively!)..The best soundtracks undoubtedly goes to Aanandha Thandavam and Vaaranam Ayiram(Both were amazing!!),followed by Saroja,Sakkarakatti and
Raman Thediya Seethai. The best composer of the year is easily Vidyasagar, mainly because there were many soundtracks composed by him in this year and they were not that bad by any means(Infact i Loved Raman Thediya Seethai and Mahesh Saranya Mattum Palar!).The list is in the order of preference and in case i've forgotten to add any song that deserves a place in the top ten, please let me know by throwing in your comments!!..

Kulir 100(Tamil,Bobo Shashi)

I was looking forward to this soundtrack with much anticipation especially after watching the amazing promos for the movie..I first thought that there were only two tracks in the movie but it is actually a full fledged album!..The first two tracks,Coco Nanda and MC Bullet's Hip Hop Hurray and Nallavan Kettavan belong to a kind of songs that is alien to the Tamil film industry and requires some getting used to.But the tune as such and the arrangements are very much Dharan'ish!..The next track,Manasellam is a haunting and ammazing number dedicated to friendship and you cannot help but fall in love with this track!..Both the versions of the track are equally good and Simbhu's voice is surprisingly good in the unplugged version!..Krish's Un Uyir Nanban is elegant right from the start and is almost like a Harris Jeyaraj number,if not better!..Sirugendri Parkalam is predictable, but the backgrounds are funky and is almost a Boom Boom(Raam)revisited if not for some boring hooks in between. The last track,Boom(I know, too many Booms!:P) too is very lively and is a worthy add-on to this soundtrack. This soundtrack is undoubtedly, competent and is infact, delightful mainly due to the two melodies!.. Bobo Shashi enters into the Tamil music scene with a bang!..

Villu(Tamil,Devi Sri Prasad)

Aakalesthe's equivalent,Daddy Mummy has astoundingly bad lyrics but Mamta Mohandas' vocals is the major highpoint in the Tamil version too.Jalsa Title track and the remix sound godawful in the Tamil version and the original charm of the track is completely lost.Om Namaste Bolo's equivalent,Dheem Dhanakka is corny and very addictive with Devi's vocals only adding to the feel of the song.Despite the fact that his telugu compositions sound oh-so-repulsive in Tamil,it is certainly bound to be lapped up by the Tamil audiences. But Devi drifts to the cacophonous side when it comes to his own tamil compositions.Vijay's intro track,Hey Rama Rama,is predictably all noise while Are you crazy makes you wonder if you're actually crazy listening to the song.Nee Kova Pattal just passes muster(Iam getting sick of Sagar's voice!) while the last track,Vaada Mapla is incredibly silly. This time, its Devi overdose in Villu!..

Jumbo(Hindi,Ram Sampath)

Despite the sky high hype for the song Everything Gonna Be Alright,it is actually very routine and assembly-line while Dil Mera Jumbo too rubs in more of the ennui into the soundtrack.Chayee Madhoshiyan is impressive with Sonu Nigam's haunting vocals, but it eventually gets boring in the middle and doesnt seem to end at all.Badhte Chalo is jarring and largely discordant while the final track,Jaya He is incoherent and rounds up the soundtrack into a very uninspiring one.Ram Sampath's previous compositions were certainly better than the ones in this soundtrack!..

Raaz-The Mystery Continues(Hindi,Assorted Composers)

Toshi's uber cool vocals and that instantly appealing tune works wonders in Maahi-This may well be touted as one of the best songs in the year!..Of Raju Singh's two compositions,Soniye and O Jaana,O Jaana works because of K.K's punchy vocals and is a song only most suited for Emran Hashmi while Soniye is middling.Pranay Rijia's Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai too works because of the ambient tune and inspiring vocals by K.K(Especially in the Paragraphs!)but the oh oh-He He chorus gets on my nerves everytime i listen to it.The final track,Gourov Dasgupta's O Banda Re is astoundingly bad and flat.Well,Emran Hashmi was quoted as saying that of all his movies, this is the best soundtrack. This soundtrack, certainly does not complement the fact what he said because only 3 songs stand out in an otherwise routine soundtrack and cannot even be compared to some of his film soundtracks like The Train etc!..

Chandni Chowk to China(Hindi,Various Assorted Artists)

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's two tracks,Chandni Chowk to China and Tere Naina are extremely addictive with Neeraj Shridhar literally carrying the song on his shoulders in the former while that beautiful tune and amazing backgrounds make the latter very listenable.Bappi Lahiri's India Se Aaya Tera Dost is largely flat while Bohemia's CC2C
has Akshay making a mincemeat of the song in the prelude and in the middle, but otherwise the song is passable. The other trio Kailash,Naresh and Paresh's qawwali in S.I.D.H.U works mainly because of Kailash's superb vocals while their other composition Chak Lein De too is very interesting and addictive!..Undoubtedly,SEL and KNP's compositions make the impact in this soundtrack.

King(Telugu,Devi Sri Prasad)

A to Z oozes with energy right from the start in a typical DSP way while Naveen's thumping vocals is a major plus. The title track, however is tasteless and Leslie Lewis' vocals does not help things any better.O Manmadhuda is the Telugu version of the Sangama title track and is equally pleasant in Telugu while Nuvvu Ready is annoying with that pathetic lyrics.Yenthapani Chestiviro is a Narayana Moorthy styled track(That says it all!) while Nenu Nee Raja, with some good vocals by Rahul Nambiyar and Andrea is passable.Ghanana Ghanana is a surprise from Devi!..This classical infused track is sung with panache by Ujjaiyinee while the other version,Ghanana Ghanana Funny(Thats how its called!) with hindi film titles is funny and Mamta Mohandas' vocals is just rightly placed and is amazing!..This Soundtrack is a little inventive but also has the Usual Devi elements which make it pretty interesting!!..
A very good timepass!!
